Paper Writing Guide

Authors are urgently requested, in their own interest (to guarantee speedy publication), to comply carefully with this recommendation.
Submitted papers will be referred and, if necessary, authors may be invited to revise their manuscripts.

Manuscripts preferred for publication in Opto-Electronics Review (O-ER) are those that:

  1. contain original work – which is not and has not been published elsewhere in any other medium by the authors or anyone else, and is not under consideration for publication elsewhere. This restriction does not apply to review articles,
  2. are focused on the core aims and scope of the journal – O-ER is a scientific journal publishing fundamental research results from all fields of optoelectronics,
  3. are clearly and correctly written – should contain all essential features of a complete scientific paper, should be written in a clear, easy to understand manner, and be readable for a wide audience of scientists,
  4. are written in English – should be clearly and grammatically
written, in an easily readable style. This will help avoid
severe misunderstandings which might lead to rejection of the
    paper,
  5. are submitted in electronic format.
Manuscripts should be submitted to O-ER via the online submission system Editool available for this journal at http://www.oer.editool.com. Authors should register themselves first as new users and then upload their manuscripts. In case of any technical problems, please contact the Managing
    Editor of O-ER oer@wat.edu.pl.

Preparation of the text

  1. The manuscript should contain title page, abstract, keywords, text, figures, and reference list. Generally a standard scientific paper is divided into:
    – introduction: you present the subject of your paper clearly, indicate the scope of the subject, present the goals of your paper and finally the organization of your paper;
    – main text: you present all important elements of your scientific message;
    – conclusions: you summarize your paper.
  2. Each manuscript should start with a brief concise title in which only the first word is capitalised and no acronyms are used (unless they are widely known).
  3. The title page should include the author’s (authors’) name(s) given without titles or scientific degrees like Prof., Ph.D., etc., however, with the corresponding author marked by an  asterisk. This should be followed by the affiliation of each of the authors. For the corresponding author, the full mailing address with e-mail address are needed.
  4. The text of the paper should be preceded by a concise abstract, and at least three keywords, which characterise the subject of the paper. The abstract should be self-contained (without footnotes) presenting all items of the paper’s subject about which new results have been gained and emphasising the conclusions most important from scientific point of view. The abstract should not exceed 200 words in length. The main text of paper should be divided into sections and subsections (if needed the subsections may be divided in paragraphs). These parts of the text should have relevant headings numbered accordingly by only one number (1.), two numbers (1.1.), or three numbers (1.1.1.).
  5. In the text, the greatest care must be taken to observe consistency in the use of abbreviations for units and other expressions.

References

Source references in the text of the article should be given in square brackets, e.g. [4], numbered consequentially in citation order and listed at the end of the manuscript. Journal references are to be written as follows: initial(s) and surname(s) of author(s), title of a paper, journal name (italic) abbreviated according to the ISI standards (see http://library.caltech.edu/reference/abbreviations/) volume (bold), issue (only if needed), page numbers (inclusive), and year in brackets; while book references should be written as follows: initial(s) and surname(s) of author(s), title of a paper, title of book (italic), volume number, page numbers (inclusive), the publisher, its location, and year of edition. Follow the four examples; for a journal, a book and a paper in a book, accordingly:

  1. D.A. Scriber, M.R. Kruer, and J.M. Killiany, “Infrared focal plane array technology”, Proc. IEEE 79, 66–85 (1991).
  2. P.Y. Yu and M. Cardona, Fundaments of Semiconductors, Springer-Verlag, Berlin, 1996.
  3. M.A. Kinch, “Metal-insulator-semiconductor infrared detectors”, in Semiconductors and Semimetals, Vol. 18, pp. 313–378, edited by R.K. Willardson and A.C. Beer,
    Academic Press, New York, 1981.
  4. Y.N. Meziani, N. Hanabe, A. Koizumi, T. Otsuji, and E. Sano, “Self oscillation of the plasma waves in a dual grating gates HEMT device”, in 19th Int. Conf. Indium Phosphide and Related Materials, pp. 534–537, Matsue, 2007.

Please use the following format to cite material from O-ER journal: Author(s), “Title of paper”, Opto-Electron. Rev. volume, page numbers (year). For example:

C.R. Wronski, L. Liao, R. Koval, and R.W. Collins, “Recent advances in the understanding of a-Si:H based materials for performance of their solar cells,” Opto-Electron. Rev. 8, 275–279 (2000).

Copyright Transfer – submission of a manuscript indicates a tacit understanding that the paper is not actively under consideration for publication with other journals. Once the paper is accepted, authors are assumed to have transferred the copyright of the paper to O-ER. After submission the authors are asked to send as soon as possible the Transfer of Copyright Agreement (original) by post to the following address:

Illustrations

  1. Figures should be numbered consecutively and should carry a caption. Decimals not fractions should be used with metric units. SI units are preferred. The figures should be identified by the name of the first author, and the title of the paper on the front of the figure, well outside the image area. All illustrations should be able to withstand 50% reduction. Please ensure maximum black-white contrast in your original figures. Figures may be published in colour, if this is judged essential by the Editor. The Publisher and the author will each bear part of the extra costs involved.
  2. Pictures and graphs should be made and written in their antive formats, .eg. (.ai, .cdr, .xls, .doc, .org, .eps), and should be sent as separate files. The preferred figure's editor is CorelDraw 12
  3. Photographs are expensive to reproduce and should only be included when they undoubtedly contribute to a better understanding of the text. Authors can attach files in most popular
formats, including images in BMP, JPEG, and TIF formats. Photographs have to be sent as a separate files. Parametres:
    – colour graphics and graphics in a grey scale – 150−225 dpi,
    – monochromatic graphics: 300−600 dpi.
    Tables
Tables should be numbered consecutively and independently of any figures in the paper. Their positions in text should be indicated clearly. They should have brief titles and column headings.
    Submission formats
Manuscripts can be submitted in the following formats: MS Word either as  standard document (.doc). Authors have to upload a PDF file including all figures. In case when an author wants to send his article prepared in the format different than these mentioned above he should contact Managing Editor.
