Instructions for Authors

General remarks

Before preparing a submission authors should first consult the editorial policy of the publisher and ensure that their article falls within the scope of Paladyn.

Electronic Submission

Paladyn accepts only electronic submissions via Editorial Manager. In case of problems articles can be directly sent to the Managing Editor (Maciej Klemiato mklemiato@versita.com).

Authors are requested to provide a single editable file containing text and tables and files with publication-quality figures. The following formats are accepted:

  • editable text: MS Word files (.doc, .rtf), Latex file (.tex)
  • graphics: EPS, BMP, JPG, TIFF, GIF or PDF

First-Time Submission of Articles

Each newly submitted manuscript should be accompanied by a cover letter which should explicitly state that the authors have the authority to publish the manuscript. Please explain why you consider your manuscript as suitable for publication in Paladyn
The letter should contain all important details such as:

  • your full name (submitted by)
  • full title of article
  • full list of authors with affiliations
  • e-mail of the corresponding author
  • contact address, telephone/fax numbers of the corresponding author
  • number of attached files

You can also add any information that you want to convey to the editor.

Having your cover letter and all files for submission ready you can provide the remaining informations in the electronic submission system. If you have never submitted an article to Paladyn you should first register at http://www.editorialmanager.com/paladyn.

Authors are encouraged to recommend up to five reviewers who are not members of their institution(s) and have never been associated with them or their laboratory(ies); please provide contact information for suggested reviewers.

Submission of Revised Articles

When revision of a manuscript is requested, authors are expected to deliver the revised version of the manuscript as soon as possible but not later than after 60 days (in case of the first revision) or 14 days ( in case of the second revision). Additional time for resubmission must be requested in advance; further 14 days may be given to authors for further improvements. The manuscript should be uploaded directly to the Editool as an answer to the Editor's decision (and not as a new manuscript).
Resubmitted manuscript should be accompanied by a letter outlining a point-by-point response to Editor's and reviewers' comments and detailing the changes made to the manuscript. If the above mentioned deadlines are not met, the manuscript will be treated as a new submission.

Preparation of Manuscripts

The work must demonstrate its novelty, and its importance to a particular field - as well as its interest to those outside that discipline - and conclusions that are justified by the study. Make your argumentation complete and be self-critical as you review your drafts.

Paladyn encourages the submission of both substantial full-length bodies of work and shorter manuscripts that report novel findings that might be based on a more limited range of experiments. There are no specific length restrictions for the overall manuscript or individual sections; however, we urge the authors to present and discuss their findings in a concise and accessible manner. Use simple and declarative sentences and commonly understood terms, and avoid long sentences and idle words.

Since robotics is a multidisciplinary field it is of utmost importance that papers are written in a way which makes them understandable to the broad range of specialists working in this field. Thus one should avoid using highly specialized terms without explanation, or proper reference.

Article Types

The following article types can be chosen:

  • Research Article – It should be a default type to report on research results. There is no length restriction
  • Communication – This type should be used to report on recent high quality research results of special importance, which merits urgent publication (6-7 weeks). It may be followed by a regular article developing the ideas included in the Communication. The length should not exceed 4-5 pages.
  • Review Article – Should be used to submit reviews of literature on a topic of interest.
  • Letter to the Editor – A brief discussion of an article published in Paladyn. Especially if the conclusions are contrary to the original ones. The length should be comparable to that of a Communication.
  • Erratum – A very short form used to correct a substantial error/misprint found by the author in the previously published paper.

Organization of the Manuscript

The references should be listed and numbered ([1], [2],…) in the order of their citation in the text. Use the following examples to format the list of references.
