Instructions to authors

The journal Casopis slezskeho zemskeho muzea (Acta Musei Silesiae), series A – Natural Sciences publishes original papers dealing with the natural sciences (geology, paleontology, botany, zoology and allied fields) written in the English. It also accepts short reports, book reviews or biographical notes which can be written in English or Czech language. In the Czech written reports it is necessary to add an English abstract including the title, English names of geographical units and English captions to all graphic supplements (illustrations, graphs, tables).

All manuscripts are reviewed (by minimum of two peer reviewers) before acceptance and the editorial board decides about their publication and order of printing.

Manuscripts for review must be submitted by means of the electronic editorial system accessible at http://www.szmo.cz/rubrika/70/veda-a-vyzkum/periodika.html. Each author should register here first. Subsequently, he will receive a login password so that he can be able to see the state of the reviewing process, read reviews, proofs and submit the corrected manuscript after reviews.

The final text must be submitted in electronic form (as .doc or .rtf files, MS Word) written by standard type (Times New Roman – size 12). Please, do not use any formatting of the text, only left margin justification. However, it is recommended to write all scientific names of taxa of the species and genus level (not higher) in italics. All illustrations and other larger supplements (drawings, graphs, tables) should be submitted as separate files (not included in the text file). Drawings and other graphic work can be submitted in the formates jpeg, tiff, bmp, cdr or cpt; tables best in xls or cdr. The resolution of line drawings and other graphics should be at least 600 dpi, of photographs 300 dpi at print size.

The standard order of sections for original papers should be: Title, Name(s) of the author(s), Abstract, Key words, Introduction, Methods (Material and Methods), Results, Discussion and Conclusions (these two may be combined), Acknowledgements, References, Author’s address, Tables, Figure legends. A Czech written summary can also be added (after References).
