The publisher’s idea is “the Science and Culture about Nature”.

History

"Biotechnology & Biotechnological Equipment" (B&BE) (ISSN: 1310-2818) is an international scientific peer review journal which publishes original research articles and reviews in the field of modern and traditional biotechnologies and pharmacy. The journal "Biotechnology and Industry" was established in 1984. In 1992 its thematic and graphical conception was changed, and it started to be published only in English language under the title "Biotechnology and Biotechnological Equipment" as a publication of "Diagnosis Presss LTD".

Evaluation

  1. In 1992 "Biotechnol. & Biotechnol. Eq." was chosen in the best 172 journals, out of 7000 relevant issues for full indexing and referring in BTCI™ (Biotechnology Citation Index), ISI (Institute for Scientific Information).
  5. The valuable journal archive, which provides articles for 18 years allows B&BE to become part of the international information system. This occurred after the inclusion of the journal in the ISI’s Thomson products more than 15 years ago. By its biomedical and medical articles the journal is selected for full coverage in PMC (Pub Med Central). Indirectly this product allows the users for a thematic search and a preliminary access to articles during data review process.

Publisher’s strategy

Since 2004 the journal’s on-line version appears in the informational room. The statistical data has shown high level of attendance and demand for the journal (www.diagnosisp.com). Since the volume 21/2007 the journal has been publishing in new graphic and thematic version.

The contents of the journal by its new conception combines scientific investigations and researches related to the application of biotechnologies in agricultural, chemical and pharmaceutical industry by the main directions in the development of biological sciences.

Articles discussing the impact of biotechnology on the medicine and the human health, ecology and environment, and the global security system are included. The Publisher’s strategy is orientated toward development of the journal into highly competitive publication.

Objectives

Distribution of knowledge

The journal’s objective is to become one of the leaders in the knowledge distribution in Central and Eastern Europe. This can be achieved by actual themes selected to represent the importance of biotechnologies as alternative solutions not only for healthy life, but also more environmental friendly processes, and even food supply.

Popularization of scientific discoveries

The journal is a forum for competent opinions published as editorial reviews and publications from leading scientists such as these under the themes in the journal’s main platforms:

Agricultural biotechnologies:

  • Strategic vision for plant biotechnology and genomics development;
  • The evolution of competitive advantage for nations in the agriculture plant biotechnology industrial sector;
  • Food biotechnology: promising havoc or hope for the poor?

Medical and pharmaceutical biotechnologies:

  • Human Papiloma virsuses: realities and perspectives;
  • Generics-present and future;

Education and basic science:

  • The system of training on biotechnology in Bulgaria – features and problems;
  • New European view of education;
  • Was Darwin right in adopting the motto “Natura non fasit saltus”?

The popularization and better understanding of the importance of the scientific discoveries by the society, especially in the developing countries is a continuing process, in which the journal is an essential factor.

Forum and Discussions

Our mission is to bring to the society valuable information for healthy and better life. Our aim when publishing is not only results presented as original papers, but we are also trying to show and represent the ongoing activities of universities, scientific institutes and research organizations. We are going to perform this by illustrating their current projects and results as well as their long term collaborations with the industry, farmers and consumers under the rubric "What about Research and Industry".

Articles representing results from completed projects in a frame of PHARE - EC, UNIDO, UNEP, UNESCO, NATO, COPERNICUS and SOCRATES are published. The journal’s projects on themes such as "Protein Science and Drug Design", addressed to students and young scientists represented in the rubric Education and Basic Science, reviews and articles oriented toward special themes, such as the projects "Immune Support for Health from the Nature and Science in Bulgaria"; "Drugs Addiction-Problem of 21st Century" are also represented.

This is just an example of what we have achieved and experienced until now and how are we trying to popularize the idea of "the Science and Culture about Nature". With the publisher’s responsibility and the support of the Editorial Board we developed the journal’s strategy as our mission. This is accomplished on the base of mutual partnerships with Black Sea Biotechnology Association (BSBA), the Association of Mountain Municipalities, Hasumi International Research Foundation - Bulgaria, Association of Bulgarian Pharmaceutical Manufacturers, Union of Scientists in Bulgaria, Balkan Biochemical Society, etc.

We are open for new creative collaboration, in which the partnership between research and industry will be represented and successful. What about research and industry?
